VISUAL PLANNING 5.3 DOCUMENTATION

Time gap constraint

DEFINITION

The Time gap constraint is applied when an event is created or modified, to verify that it does not contradict the other events that are already on the planner.

The time gap constraint allows to verify the respect of a time gap by two events in a defined period. This verification is done for group of resources or resource by resource.

The time gap constraint can be:

  • a blocking on the creation or the modification of an event.
  • a warning with a message to notify that the constraint is not respected.

The time gap constraint has three filters:

  • the Dimension filter,
  • the Events filter for the trigger of the constraint,
  • the Events filter for the verification of the constraint.

SETTINGS

Create a Time gap constraint

A dimension must be chosen to create a Time gap constraint.

To do so, right-click on Time gap Constraint > Create a Time gap Constraint > Choose the dimension.

The pannel on the bottom is then activated:

The next step is the definition of the different features of the constraint.

Finally:

  • Save by clicking on the OK button
  • or Restore by clicking on the Restore button

The different features are:

Name

The name of the constraint.

Description

It concerns the optional description of the constraint.

If the description is given then the text in this field is the information that will appear whenever the constraint is triggered.

History

It is the history of the constraint: who created and last modified the constraint.

Activated

Check / Uncheck the box to enable or disable the constraint. (c.f below Enable / Disable)

To open the window, click on […]:

Form of the constraint

Two choices are possible:

  • Warning
  • Imperative

To know more about the forms of Time gap Constraints, look below: Utilisation

Resources Filter

This filter defines the resources of a chosen dimension on which the constraint will be applied.

It is possible to:

  • select an existing filter,
  • create a customized filter that belongs to the constraint (c.f Customized). To do so, select the customized mention and then click on the button: vp5_bouton_creer.jpg
All the resources vs each resource

It concerns the verification of the constraint. This verification can be made for all the resources or for each resource of the Dimension.

Trigerred for the events of the filter

This filter defines the events which activate the verification of the constraint.

It is possible to:

  • select an existing filter,
  • create a cutomized filter which belongs to the constraint. (c.f Customized)
Away with time gap in
  • Day duration
  • Hour duration
Of the Events filter

This filter defines the events which will be verified by the constraint.

It is possible to:

  • select an existing filter,
  • create a customized filter which belongs to the constraint. (c.f Customized)
Must be at least
  • Fixed value : it is a numerical value.
  • Heading value : it is the name of the heading of the chosen dimension. This heading must be a numerical value, a control column, an operation value or an event value(for a numerical result) and persistent.

Modify a Time gap constraint

To modify a Time gap constraint, return into the Global settings and modify this constraint. (c.f. Create a constraint)

The modifications on a constraint will impact only the future events that will be created or modified.

The existing events before this modification will not be modified.

Enable / Disable

An existing constraint can be disabled. To make it run, it must be activated.

To see if a constraint is enabled, go to the Global Settings.

  • Enabled constraint: vp5_symbole_contrainte_active.jpg
  • Disabled constraint: vp5_symbole_contrainte_inactive.jpg

To enable a constraint, there are two possibilities:

  • Right-Click on the constraint > Enable
  • Select the constraint, then Pannel on the bottom > Check the “Enable” box

To disable a constraint, there are two possibilities:

  • Right-Click on the constraint > Disable
  • Select the constraint, then Panel on the bottom > Uncheck the “Disable” box

Delete a Time gap constraint

To delete a Time gap constraint, Right-Click on the Time gap constraint > Delete

When a Time gap constraint is deleted, it does not modify the datas on the planner.

USE

If the constraint is activated, and if the event that is created or modified belongs to the filter that triggers the constraint, the Time gap constraint can be respected or not.

Respected constraint

In this case, there is no message. The creation or modification of an event takes place normally.

Not respected constraint

In this case, a message appears. This message is different depending on whether it is a warning or an interdiction.

Warning

This request message appears:

You have to answer to this question: Would you continue?

  • Either click on the Yes button. In this case, the event creation or modification is done despite the constraint. The event is then tagged.
  • Either click on the Yes to All button. In this case, the event creation or modification is done despite all the constraints triggered. The event is then tagged.
  • Or click on the No button. In this case, the event creation, modification or moving is not done.

Imperative

This error message appears:

Click on the OK button. The event creation or modification is not done.

Use tag on event

If a constraint (warning type) is not respected and the user chooses to break it by clicking Yes or Yes for all, the event is created or modified with special tag.

You can find this tag later in several ways

  • Border of duration bar,
  • Tooltip of the event,
  • Text on duration bar
  • Events filter.

More detail :

Border of duration bar

On the borders of the event. If the constraint is not verified, the borders are discontinuos.
