Viewing a GANTT chart


The GANTT chart is used to view events positioned on a schedule over a given period of time, with links between these events.

Information about the events is displayed on the time bar.

More detailed information is displayed in the tooltip. The event’s start and end dates are also displayed by default in the tooltip.

The type of information displayed is determined by the configuration. Several options are possible in a GANTT chart.


Time period

You can modify the time period displayed by clicking on the following button :



The GANTT chart template can be organized:

  • by month,
  • a week,
  • by day.


These different time periods are displayed if they have been selected in the configuration.

Browsing the calendar

You can browse the calendar using the arrows or the navigation bar.

Events filters

If events filters were selected in the “Events filter” field when configuring the Gantt module, events can be filtered.

Click on the visual planning 8 vpportal settings button button or directly in the view’s header.

Select the appropriate filter in the drop-down list to filter the events displayed in the schedule.



The events displayed can be filtered by carrying out a search.

To do so, click on the visual planning 8 vpportal settings button button.

Filtering can:

  • Filter the displayed events,
  • Filter on the properties and headings displayed;
  • Condition: Contains.


Headings and properties that are not visible in the GANTT chart are not taken into account to verify the filter condition.

GANTT chart view

Day: This view displays all the hours of a day. Special days are shown in the colour of the defined period type.


Week: This view displays all the days of a week. Special days are shown in the colour of the defined period type.


Month: This view displays all the days of a month. Special days are shown in the colour of the defined period type.


Resetting the display of a context

If the current display has been activated, you can reset the display to how it was set up in the configuration.

To do so, click on the visual planning 8 vpportal settings button button. In the window displayed, click on the vpportal_resetting_button button.

Creating an event


It will only be possible to create an event if at least one hierarchy was selected during configuration.

To create an event, Click on the portal7_fr_bouton_ajouter button;


If several creation hierarchies are possible, choose one of them in the following window:


The resources for the selected hierarchy’s mandatory dimensions must be chosen in the following screen:


  • Choice of dimension(s)


Click Cancel to cancel the creation of the event.

Click OK to continue creating the event. Enter the event’s properties in the next screen:


  • Choice of the event’s headings and attributes which will be displayed when editing the event.



  • Click OK to confirm the creation of the event,

  • or click Cancel to cancel it.

Managing an event


Clicking on an event brings up a pop-up menu. Select the appropriate action from among the proposed options (if you have the required permissions).

  • Click on portal7_fr_bouton_edition to edit the event. The appropriate editing window is displayed. (See Input editors).

    The data displayed for an event can be edited if you have the required permissions.

    For a given dimension, resources can be modified if the Dimension entity is displayed in the event.

  • Click on vpportal_duplicate_button to duplicate the event if the option has been enabled (see Authorize duplication). The event editing window will appear.
  • Click on vpportal_assign_button   to assign a resource to the event. The various resource assignment contexts created beforehand are proposed:


The corresponding assignment window will be displayed. Choose the appropriate resource and click OK.



  • Click on portal7_fr_bouton_supprimer to delete the event. The following screen appears:

Click Confirm to confirm the deletion, or Cancel to cancel the deletion.


You can display the critical path. To do so, click on visual planning 8 vpportal settings button , then tick the “Activate critical path” box.



When you click on an event, dots appear at the start and end of the event. These dots can be used to link up events. For this purpose, select a dot and extend the link to the event to be linked.



When you click on a link, you can edit it. Several options are available. For more details on how these links work, see the configuration here.
